Welcome to our website
Prestonpans Health Centre was built and opened in December 1980 and upgraded in 2003. It has GP consulting rooms, practice nurse clinic and treatment room. In addition there are facilities for physiotherapy, podiatry and other visiting specialists.
All surgeries run on an appointment system, although provision will always be made for serious emergencies. Emergencies can always be seen where the doctor considers this is required on medical grounds.
Registering with the Practice & Removal of Patients not living within our boundary
Due to a dramatic increase in housing within Prestonpans over the last 5 years, the Practice has seen a 17% increase in the number of patients registered with the surgery (increased from 7,748 patients in April 2009 to 9,059 patients in August 2014). The growth in population within Prestonpans will continue over the next few years and we are obliged to accept new patients that live within our specified boundary of EH32 9.
We do have restrictions in place and now only allow people that live within the EH32 9 postcode to register with us, however the patient list size has continued to grow and is now at an unsustainable level.
As a result of this the Practice has had to make the difficult decision to remove patients that are not within our specified Practice boundary (a map outlining our practice boundary can be found the 'Downloadable Forms' section of this website). We have therefore started the process of writing to patients that do not live within our boundary and advised them that they need to register with a practice in their local area within the next 4 weeks.
If you are affected by this change and are struggling to find your local practice, details are available via the NHS Lothian website or by contacting Practitioner Services Medical, 2nd Floor Gyle Square, 1 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh.
Protected Learning Time
The Practice will be closed from 1.00pm on Wed 20th August for East Lothian wide training. We will reopen at 8.00am on Thur 21st August. If you require medical advice during this period of closure, please call NHS 24 on 111. In the event of a life threatening emergency, please dial 999.
