Meet Our Doctors

Dr Anna Beedel
MbChB (Edinburgh 1996) MRCGP (2002) Diploma in Child Health DFSRH

Dr Beedel was born in England and came to Edinburgh to study medicine in 1991. She completed her GP training in England and Australia before returning to Scotland in 2002. Her medical interests include women’s health and contraceptive coil fitting, and child health. She enjoys open water swimming and cycling.  

Dr Zain Kapasi
BSc (Hons), MBChB (Glasgow 2002), MRCGP, GP Trainer

Dr Kapasi joined the Practice in 2011. He previously dabbled in Surgery, Anaesthetics/ITU and A&E before finally settling in General Practice. He trained mainly in the Greater Glasgow area but has also lived and worked in the USA, New Zealand and Australia. He is interested in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Joint Injections, Lifestyle Medicine and Mental Health (or “Brain Health” as he prefers to call it). He is a GP Trainer and often has Junior GPs training under him at the Practice. He lives in Haddington with his family and finds East Lothian considerable drier than his West Coast upbringing! He pretends to be a Triathlete and spends his spare time doing illustrations and writing poems. He recently started his own YouTube Channel as “Doctor Doodle Dad”

Dr Iain MacLeod
BSc (Hon) MedSci, MBChB (Aberdeen 2000), MRCS, MRCGP.

Dr MacLeod grew up on the Isle of Lewis and undertook his medical training at Aberdeen University. He worked in a variety of jobs in Aberdeen and then the Glasgow area before moving to Edinburgh. Dr Macleod was one of the last generation of doctors who had the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of specialities before commencing their formal GP training programme. He joined Prestonpans Group Practice in 2008 and also works shifts for the GP out-of-hours service. His areas of medical interest include musculo-skeletal medicine and men’s health. Outside work he enjoys spending time with his family and occasionally plays a round of golf.

Dr Penny Miller

Dr Miller grew up in Glasgow and moved to Aberdeen to study medicine. In 2004, she moved to Edinburgh and worked in A+E, Paediatrics, Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology before completing General Practice Training. She was a Fellow in Clinical Education, teaching and supporting training GPs, and worked for many years with the GP Unit in NES. Now, she is an Educational Supervisor to the GP trainees in the practice, along with Dr Kapasi. Dr Miller started working in Prestonpans in 2010 and very much enjoys her work here. Outside work, she enjoys spending time with family, running and outdoor swimming.

Dr Shelagh Stewart
MbChB ( Aberdeen 1995) MRCGP ( 2000) DRCOG DFSRH, Kings College Hospital Diploma in Diabetes.

Interests in Diabetes, Mental Health and Quality Improvement.
 
Dr Stewart was born in England and moved to Scotland to study medicine at the University of Aberdeen. Before completing General Practice training she worked in Care of the Elderly Medicine, Accident and Emergency, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care and in Psychiatry. She currently also works as a GP Appraiser and as a GP Cluster Lead for East Lothian. Dr Stewart doesn’t have any spare time (only joking) Outside of work Dr Stewart enjoys spending time with her family, reading and cycling.

Dr Louise Aithie
MBChB (Glasgow 2002),  MRGCP , DRCOG, DFSRH

Dr Aithie was born in Northern Ireland and came to Scotland to study medicine in Glasgow. She worked in a variety of specialties in both Glasgow and London before moving to Edinburgh to complete GP training.  Her medical interests include women’s health and child health. Outside work she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and running.

Dr Sara Razik

Dr Razik is our new GP retainer. She qualified in London before moving to Edinburgh where she worked in a variety of specialties before starting her GP training. She completed her training in Edinburgh, The Scottish Borders, and Coastal West Sussex. She works Mondays and Wednesdays at the practice and will be with us for 5 years.

Dr Anna McKinlay

Dr McKinlay grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne.  She moved to Edinburgh to study medicine, qualifying in 2014.  She then spent time working in various hospital specialties in Edinburgh, before spending some time working in New Zealand.   She returned to Edinburgh to complete her GP training.  Her medical interests include women’s health, menopause, contraceptive implant fitting and children’s health.  She started working at the practice in 2021.  Outside of work she enjoys hill walking, tennis and cycling, she sings in a choir, and is also trying to learn the fiddle. 

Dr Olawale Hameed
(GP Trainee)

Dr Hameed is our new GP trainee who will be with us for 1 year until February 2025.  He is a qualified doctor who is in his final year of GP training.  Dr Hameed works Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the practice.

Dr Priya Sequeira
(GP Trainee)

Dr Sequeira is our new GP Trainee who will be with us until August 2024. She is a qualified doctor who is in her final year of GP training. Dr Sequeira works Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the practice.

Dr Elaine Taylor
(Long term locum GP)

Dr Taylor has worked at the practice for many years. She will be working at the practice until April 2024. She works Every Wednesday and alternate Monday and Fridays.

Dr Catherine Bell-Webb

MB BChir MA (Cambridge 2016), DRCOG, DTM&H, MRCGP

Dr Bell-Webb grew up in Haddington and Edinburgh. She undertook her medical training at Cambridge University and then returned to work in Southeast Scotland and spent her final year of GP training at Prestonpans Health Centre. She has now returned to work at Prestonpans as a salaried GP. She has an interest in global health and health inequalities and has completed a diploma in tropical medicine and spent 6 months working in a rural hospital in Zanzibar. Outside of medicine she enjoys running and going on adventures in Scotland or further afield!

Reception staff are here to help you between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm. Their job is to liaise between you and the doctor. It is an extremely demanding job so please be patient.

The District Nurses are available to give nursing care to patients in their homes and work closely with the GPs. They are based in the Health Centre and can be contacted on the above number. If they are out and about a message can be left on their answering machine.

Podiatrist (Chiropody)– Referral form available at Reception


All appointments are made by the Podiatrist who are now based at Musselburgh Primary Care Centre.

Community Links Worker

Leila Frank and Sam Tenzin are our links worker at the surgery who can help patients easily access support available within the community for their particular social, emotional and practical needs. The team aim to empower patients to make improvements to their health and well-being through informal and confidential one-to-one chats lasting up to an hour. Through a course of 4 to 6 sessions, they will assist patients to identify their specific support needs and then find suitable specialist agencies within the community that can help them address those needs.Community Links Worker

Our pharmacists can provide telephone and face-to-face appointments where needed.  The pharmacists, pharmacy technicians or the doctors often review some or all of your medicines and may want to talk with you about the medicines you are currently taking. In the practice we like to review your medicine at least once a year, but can be more often if needed. Practice Pharmacy Team

CTAC Service

CTACS is a new way of receiving nursing care. Rather than using our own nurses you will be seen by nurses from East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS staff (most of the time you will be seen at our practice).

Services include:

  • Pre-chemotherapy bloods
  • Removal of sutures/staples 
  • Wound care
  • B12 injections
